Can anyone help me identify this plant? I have seen in a photo of an Italian garden in the Vanderbilt Estate (posted here) and in a Russell Page garden. I'm sure it is fairly common, but it won't come to me.

    Many thanks,
    Ron

perhaps Sedum.... maybe autumn joy or dragons blood, I think those are two varieties of it with red flowers.

    Hi Jimmy,
    Thanks for responding.

One photo caption said sedum was an element. But look at those leaves. They are lanceolate and don't to me look at all fleshy. The plant structure makes it seem a woody shrub, almost like Rhus or Nerium, though I don't really think it is either of those.

    What do you think?

I really appreciate your help on this, as I wish to use it as a design element.

    Regards,
    Ron

'Herbstfreude' is probably the most familiar cultivar of this type.

    Ron,

I appreciate the additional note. I really like the look of this plant in the photo and would like to try to utilize it in Mediterranean-style designs.

I tell you, the foliage really threw me.

    Regards,
    Ron
