Hi, I was in a Coastal Douglas Fir zone today and found this shrub - lots of it. It was multi-branched and stood at times at least 12 feet high. I have checked all my books and although its leaves look like an oak (I know they are not) and it shares the fruit look of hawthorns, I can't identify it. Can anyone help me?

I believe what you have there is indeed a Hawthorn Crataegus monogyna

Thanks so much. Of course now when I read the full description of the Black Hawthorn in the Plants of Coastal BC I note they talk about this Hawthorn at the bottom. Duh!! Thank you.

Agree Crataegus monogyna (an abundant local native where I am)
