I live in the Florida Keys and a Bobcat pushing large rocks around forced a rock against the base trunk of a mature 30' tall coconut palm scraping off a 6"dia. area of outer bark. It is only a surface scrape but all bark is gone and orange fibers are exposed and I don't know how to treat it to protect it from being susceptible to insects, fungi, bacteria or disease as it hardens or heals - which I hope it will do.

Any helpful advice would be most appreciated.

I imagine you could use some tree pruning paint on the wound. This will seal it and prevent problems from developing. This stuff is black and is not the best for appearances though.

Thank you so much. I picked some up and thickly dobbed it on working it in to make a good seal and appearance wasn't a big concern of mine, just doing what is right for the palm. It is right at the base and only 6" in diameter on a BIG palm base so it really doesn't look at all that unsightly.

    Thanks again for the help.
