Hi, I have over wintered a Musa Basjoo by cutting it back to about four feet and wrapping in horticultural fleece. However, the frost looks to have got to it, a lot of the trunk is brown and decomposing. Do I need to pull all the brown rotting stuff away? There is new growth starting under the mush but I don't want the whole plant to start to rot?? Any advice much appreciated.

I dont think the rot will spread.........just to be sure cut it back to the firm part of the stem.

It certainly won't hurt to remove the old decaying plant material. It isn't nessesary though since new growth is fast and able to push through.
