Hi there, we moved to this property last year. The 4 holly trees look like they need some help. We cut down 3 large evergreens on the one side of them, so these hollies will be getting more light and air, but they all exhibit bare lower branches and have some leaf miner I think.

Is it normal to have such bare bottom branches? Looks like it's getting worse over the last 10 months. Quite a few are spindly - ie foliage at the end of the branch but bare otherwise. Prune out the old branches And can I treat the leaf miner with anything aside from cleaning up the old leaves?

    Thank you

I'm not a plant pathologist, nor do I have experience with this... but apparently the blight often exhibits on branches/leaves closest to the ground first, so that does seem to indicate. Others will chime in soon, I hope.

Yes I'm thinking it is too. Cleaning up the old leaves and I'll start cutting the bare branches I guess - some of them are turning black at the tips. Thanks
