I have a dwarf cherry that was planted before I moved into my home two years ago. I have never had to do anything to it. It has always looked great. All of a sudden this year, It began turning brown on one side, then the brown moved around the tree so that now alost the whole tree is brown. We had a very dry spring and had a burn ban in my area for about three months. I've tried watering it more thinking that was the problem, but it doesn't seem to be helping. What do you think is wrong with this beautiful tree? Is it dying completely? What can I do to save it?
Hi, it probably would have been a good idea to check it out when the first side started turning, but in any case, it's hard to say without knowing if you've seen any bugs, caterpillars, etc. (sometimes you have to look very closely), or spider mites, etc. and not knowing your soil mix, or sun exposure, it's not easy to guess at it. Have you asked any local nurseries if they've had or know of any trouble, and what it might be? Is there a 'tree doctor' around to take a look at it?
I don't know what is wrong with your dwarf cherry tree however I have one that has a different problem. My cherry tree is three years old and I planted it as a twig. All the new growth is being eaten by some kind of bugs. I am going to go to a nursery and get some advice. Good Luck, I hope your tree makes it. Darlene
