Hi Apologies in advance for botanical ignorance. I planted a pair of canariensis date palms about 6 months ago. One was more mature than the other. Both are dying, though the mature one is fairing better. The main symptom is that all the leaves are dying (brown and dry) from the outside towards the centre. I know they do naturally with age but this is very premature. I've followed all instructions provided by the nurseryman but to no avail. Condiitons - South African south coast (Eastern Cape), very close to beach. Wind and not much rain. But I have been watering twice weekly as instructed. There are lots of these palms doing very well locally - just as close to the sea and even less protected than mine. Any ideas/questions would be very gratefully received?
