    I'm from Long Island, NY and a nature lover. We have a normal house, on a normal piece of property, however, love to offer the most to whatever wildlife and birds can brave the Long Island streets to get to my house.

    But I have a problem. I have found this particular weed or whatever it is has been growing all over my front and back yards. It's extremely aggressive and grows through everything.

    I took some pictures to help identify. My lawn is mostly weeds in the first place, I'm not much for the chemicals, and use only organic stuff. I'm afraid that to get rid of this stuff, I will have to kill everything... or roto-till.

    Thanks for any help. Sorry I could not post in the Identification thread, but I'm locked out of it. So I posted here.

    Here's the culprit.... and what it's doing to my yard.

    Medicago sp. I believe. I know of no organic cure other than
    hand digging being certain you get the tap root. Roto-tilling
    only produces a perfect seedbed for weed germination.

    I notice it's annual in some situations(not where I live of course).
    If that's your situation, corn gluten meal would be an effective
    pre-emergent herbicide.

    If I go non-organic... what can I use. I really need to kill/control this stuff. It's all over my yard and slowly attacking my gardens.

    Any broad-leaf weed killer labeled for Medic control would work;
    however since most garden plants are broadleaved you would have
    to be very precise in applying it without killing desirable ornamentals.

    I looked up some pics on the web of this plant, it's not the same. It flowers, which I would leave alone if it did. What I have does not flower, but just grows like crazy, and is very low to the ground. It never grows higher than 2", just under lawnmower height.
