Can someone tell me the plant zone &/or recommended hedge plants for Revelstoke? I have a friend who wants to plant a back hedge. I prefer berries, but these are out because of the bears. Also, she has small children so poisonous berries are out.

She claims that Revelstoke has a microclimate and is warmer than the surrounding area.

    Many thanks,

  2. Hi Acer!
How about Tsuga canadensis, Canadian hemlock. This should be deer resistant as well. Certain hornbeams would work or something like forsysyia but you may have a problem with deer. Hope this gets you started on ideas!

  3. Another thought is hedge cotoneaster--Cotoneaster lucidus. It is hardy to zone 3 and has black fruit. Check it out . It is a native of Siberia!
