I moved into this house that has which I believe is a Catalpa tree. We have had about 4 to 6 weeks of no rain and temperatures hitting 106F during the day (high 80's during the night). Is it a drought or watering issue what you see in the pictures or is it something else?

How often and how much should I water this tree?

    Thanks!

Do you recommend a soaker hose for tree watering purposes?

The soil around here is clay and due to the drought is very compacted and cracked in some areas. I was planning on watering using a 50/50 mix of baby shampoo and molasses to gradually allow the soil to water to penetrate deeper as I read on http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/lawns/msg0616252110541.html?13

Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks.
