have no idea what this is plant is but it comes back every year

can anyone tell me what kind of plant this is and are the pods eatable? thanks for your assistance with this.

 

I didn't have a lot of resolution from the pic size but if it belongs to to cacti family then here is something to reference. If not then you'll still have more info.if not already known?

Looks like Vicia fava.

 

Can you get a larger pic? Tend to agree it does look like a Broad Bean Vicia faba, in which case yes, the pods (or at least the beans inside) are edible. But a good large pic is needed to be sure.
