Has anyone seen this before

    I have notice these black excretions from the trunk of my A. palmatum. It doesn't look good and feel like I should do something about it. The rest of the tree looks good.

    Thanks for any advice.

    you see one hole on the trunk?if yes one insect (Italian rodi legno, sorry i not know translate)made one gallery and the black fluid is the lymph..

    I will check to see if there is a hole. If so, do you have any remedies you can suggest?

    i suggest go to garden center and ask for one spray dedicate ,there is in commerce one with one jet long put the jet in hole ,sprayed and close the hole with a special product for graft
    if you prefer made himself
    with one piece of yarn put in the hole go to end gallery when arrived you have killed the insect
    after close the hole with soil and water
    after use a liquid fertilize
