I planted a Vine Maple in part shade close to as running creek, but not now as irrigation water has been turnd off. Water comes from the Boise River. When i planted it, I used good soil stuff and the leaves were green as i had kept it in the shade of our locust tree next to my koi pond in it 1 gallon pot. Now that I transplanted it, the leaves are drying. Is this a normal reaction for this type of tree?
if in Boise in this period there is hot wind is normal ,also a little strees after planted is possible..
Right now the weather has be unusually cool for Boise in the fall. Some days we are getting mid 80's and this coming week will be in the 70's which is unusually cool. I did get this vine maples and other VM's at Walmart for $5.00 each. And they do have a reimbursement program. So I'll keep an eye on it. Some of the others have been leafless from the higher heats of upper 100* so this one I planted in the ground had remained the best where it was next to my pond. Oh, well, we'll see what happens. I have never heard of a vine maple so this, I guess will be an experiment. Thanks for responding.
Oh, I would love too! I just have to get two young adult or one is a teenager to help me upload it as they are the computer whiz of the home. My 16 year old is so smart that he has SERVER's in his bedroom! He attends a professional technical chartered high school and is always helping out the Principal, teachers, etc. with their computer or networking problems. Anyway, I have to access my photos through his server and it drives me crazy! Because teenagers are so moody! Anyway, I haven't pressed it enough just yeat because I've been spending my every waking hour in the garden before the winter comes. I have been so behind in my garden work due to surgeries, sick parents that I cared for and other things. Oh, carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis! LOL I had to go in for therapy for that and cut back on my garden work. Well, I have 2 Koi ponds, one large irrigation pond which is empty now. I have several large tanks with fish and waterlilies in them as well as the other fish ponds. The main koi pond hasn't been running as far as filtration and waterfalls go, were are revamping it. So I put the maple trees in the two upper stone pools that drain, or seep out into the large koi pond ( that is one of the problems) so I just water the trees by putting water in these upper pools and they self water the trees and my other plants that are placed in another area of the koi pond that makes it really look woodsy and/or tropical. There are coral bells, many varieties, Hostas, Astilbe, some maples, day lilies and a clematis, which I have removed and planted out in my yard. The maple trees get shade and protection of from being these empty pools, they gett enough water to soak them and then get some moisture or cooling rocks and mortar until the the mortar dries out. It was never sealed. I will try and get my son to help me post something. He is awake now. CYA in a bit, if I get help.
Okay, my son helped me get into the files but haven't found the right picture. I haven't touched this new program we have for a long time. I accidently lost the site or whatever and have to go get my son again.
I have been interested in a pond too. I have some sketchs to design a small retreat area on the north side of my backyard. I'm planning to locate a pond with waterfall and rocks, some JMs, with few japanese garden details (lantern) and a bench. I already planted a medium size bald cypress, and some pines. some pics and ideas will help. Nelson
