Hi, Does anyone know about the hardiness of Purdom's poplar? Thinking of growing it in approx zone 7. Thanks for any info... -E
Given its origin in NW China, probably hardy down to zone 5 or 6. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200005702 Whether there might be issues such as disease susceptibility or inability to cope with late spring frosts is another issue.
Thanks Michael, efloras was down for me yesterday. Your point is a good one, my P. szechuanica had been growing well, having survived a historically cold winter, but seems to have been killed off by the hard and late frost this year (combined with pseudomonas...) The little P. lasiocarpa survived though and I am trying szechuanica again as it's a cracking looking poplar. cheers, -E
