About four years ago I bought a young tree about 2feet tall and it grew into a beautiful 25ft. tree it blooms in the spring pink blossoms, and fruit in the fall, my problem is this the fruit looks more like a peach, and the seeds look more like peach pits, is that the way the almonds are supposed to look ? if so how do I get the almonds out of the hard shell ?
any help in this matter would be helpful.
    thank you to all
    Adam

It's an example of Prunus x persicoides, the hybrid between the almond and peach trees - hence the intermediate characteristics. The nuts are supposed therefore to be partly bitter, yet I have eaten mild and palatable nuts from trees here raw. Suspect there has been propagation for sale of this tree from seed, resulting in varying characteristics among plants grown under the cultivar name.
