I received a Guzmania - Voila for Christmas. I have never had one of these plants before, so I am just learning how to care for them.

The tips of the flower has started turning brown. I assume that is last of water, so I have stepped up the watering a bit. I water it mostly by filling the cups with water.

I have also placed it in a brighter light area. Can it receive some direct sunshine thru my blinds?

Also, it is in a small pot, about 4" dia. The plant is about 20"-22" across and about 12"-13" high. What are the potting requirements of this plant? Should I pot it in a larger pot? If so, how big?

Any suggestions as to how to care for this plant would be most helpful.

Thank you, in advance, for your help!

Check the bottom of the pot, if there are roots coming out of the bottom of the pot then it definitely needs repotting....not sure with these if you should wait until Spring or not? I don't know about suitable potting medium either....

Guzmania like quite warm temperatures...the minimum you should expose them to is about 15 C (59F), they need shading from direct sun so I guess it should be alright getting some through your blinds. Apparently you only need to empty and re-fill the 'vases' once every two months and water the compost only enough to keep it from drying out. These plants also like lots of humidity so mist often or place on a pebble tray.

Hope that helps a bit and others can answer your remaining questions:)
