I have just recently purchased a Hong Kong Guava tree and have a sneaking suspicion that I was sent the wrong tree. Does anyone know of a sure way to tell a guava tree from a kumquat tree without fruit or flowers? I have come across pictures online of guava leaves but am unsure if the differences in pictures to my tree's leaves are due to lighting, poor eyesight or the young age of my tree. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.
The leaves of the two trees have a completely different look. Compare those of the (Hong Kong) kumquat here with those of the guava in the thread my kumquat tree and hong kong guava tree are dying, i need help! i have pictures. | UBC Botanical Garden Forums.
Those pictures helped somewhat. The leaves of my tree have the same parallel vein pattern as the guava, but they have that waxy thick look to them like the kumquat. The guava picture shows leaves that look more "textured" from the vein patterns that my tree doesnt seem to have. However, the leaves of my tree are growing opposite one another as opposed to alternating like the kumquat picture. How large do the guava leaves typically get compared to the kumquat leaves? I've attached a few photos of my tree. To me it looks more like the kumquat tree in the thread that you sent me the link to more than the guava. I think this is why I didn't become a botanist...lol. Thanks for your help.
I am not sure what a "Hong Kong Guava" is, but this definitely does not look like a gauva Psidium. They do look suspiciously citrusy.
true, I meant its shape and the glossy texture. actually I am rather surprised by the other thread where the guava is being grown indoors.
