Gruel was made from whole wheat kernels, chia seeds, almonds, sunflower seeds. The seeds were beat in the blender with water and placed in a double boiler cooking pot, which prevents burning. Cooked for about an hour. The gruel will be stored in plastic containers in the refrigerator and freezer. Usually I add flax and nixtamalized corn but had none. A bowlful makes a fine breakfast.

I like your recipes. Thanks for sharing. Why do you cook them that long?

Using the double boiler the inside pot does not get particularly hot, not like sitting on the flame directly, so additional cooking is achieved by increasing the time without burning.

I bought a proper double boiler. It is beautifully built. My stainless double boiler arrived today. 12 Quart. It is excellent quality. Total cost 101 US price plus shipping plus 27 taxes Canadian.
