I found this growing on my husbands punching bag inside my garage. Everything ive read says the grow on plants so how is it possible for it to grow on a punching bag? Also i have a 11 month old.. Is this harmful?

Stemonitis, a slime mold (myxomycete), not a fungus, not known to be harmful. It climbed the bag to get higher to release its spores.
