I have purchased a Mr. Fothergill's seed packet. Most of my friends tell me I won't have success in getting them to flower and was wondering if anyone can offer extra advice to promote flowering in the second year. Is it necessary to plant in clumps or colonies? What would be the magic number here. Should I leave 3 seedlings together or separate them and just plant them near each other? Is it necessary to sow under glass like the packet suggests? I am on the Sunshine Coast, BC .

    thanks.

Bill Terry of Sechelt is an authority on growing Meconopsis species. He has written an article titled "Growing Himalayan Blue Poppies from Seed" which you will find here: http://www.coastbotanicalgarden.org

At the same web site, click on "What's New" and you'll see he's giving a workshop on July 28 on plant propagation.
