I live in the Kootenays. Zone 5 I need suggestions for a hedge that will grow 10-12 feet. It would be on the edge of a south facing drop off. Lots of sun in the summer. I would not water the hedge except for that the hedge would be about 10 feet from our septic field. There is decent soil there but a bit rocky. The hegde should also be deer and elk resistant if possible. We can't fence-off the elk. Fast growing plants would be wonderful but I could wait for slow growing plants also. Any ideas, most of the suggestions I have seen for hedges on this forum has been for coastal plantings.
