Hi, They might be boring, but carnations are one of my favorite flowers. Would I be able to buy cut carnations from a flower shop and use those as cuttings? What cut flowers from a shop make good cutting for growing new plants? Cuttings work a lot faster than seeds. Michael
The flower stems are cut above the base that can be rooted to make new plants. You'd need some of the basal growth for propagation. The growth pattern is more apparent with pinks that are planted in rockeries, form a vegetative mat with clearly differentiated flower stems coming up out of it in season. Carnations and other pinks can be bought at garden centers as small inexpensive size plants in spring.
Can you purchase flower shop carnations seeds? I've been hunting for some this year I used giant chabaud mixed dont really know how big the flower head will be on these but I've been wanting to get the carnations you can get in the flower shop the big flower head ones, can you give me the name of the seeds if there is any to get. Thanks
I called a green house today to ask about the flower shop carnation. They say it is called D. carnation standard, and seeds are not avaiable to the public only to commerical growers is this true??????
