I live in North Central Florida. I want to start an avacado tree from a Haas avacado seed. Years ago in New Orleans I remember starting one with toothpicks about halfway on the seed and then putting it in a glass of water. Which end do I put up? Also, is there a better way of starting one?

Thanks. I started mine pointed end up and now have a long root. Plan to get it planted right away.

hey i've grown a bunch of avocad's from seed i don't like the water thing at all
just scrub the seed clean if you can peel the skin off a little (it helps) just put it in a pot in good soil never to wet warmer the better it likes full sun when the leaves start to show it take time just don't over water the seed will rot all i do is throw my pits in pot of shallow dirt i shake around once and a while looking for one thats ready for a pot of its own (don't over water) a slow but steady plant
