The ground is turning green around my tropicana rose. The layer of green is very thin. Here is a pic of the ground. Is it anything bad? If so would mulch keep this from happening again?
Well I went ahead and dug up the green stuff. I will get some mulch on Tuesday and mulch all my roses. Thanks for the help.
Looks like too much nitrogen in the soil but I could be wrong again. Test your soils ph it could be getting a little sour if so stay away from mulches like manures high in nitrgen. You realy don't need high nitrogen fertilizers over winter when your plants are dormant. You also could have a drainage problem thats not letting the nutriments filter down into the soil where the plants can use them.
The rose that the ground was turning green around is growing real good. It even has 2 buds. And the ground drains real good(all the ground on my property drains real good). I amended the soil around all my roses with some composted cow manure. Could that be a clue? Also it's been raining a lot lately and we may get some more this week.
