I live in Lewis Center, Ohio, just north of Columbus. I am interested in planting greengage plums in my garden. I am thinking about two trees. Do I need different varieties? Which are best for my region (Central Ohio, USDA Zone5). Are there any particulars of cultivation I should be concerned about?

This thread on Green Gage plums has most, if not all, of what you're looking for.

In summary: one tree should do, as the plum is self-fertile. Few cultivars are available in the USA so unless someone has some local knowledge (try Ohio State University Extension, perhaps?), you'll likely be fine with what's available in your local nursery. Particulars of cultivation are discussed in that thread.

Thank you; I will look into what Ohio state has for certain, as they are right in town.
