I love the mid to smaller Japanese Maples with the green leaves and Yellow/golden Fall foliage. I finally found one of my favorite ones..the green Filgree. So what other cultivar's are out there? Am sure there are a few I have never heard of.
Koto no ito is another possibility. It's a threadleaf variety and one of my favorites. Looks like a miniature weeping willow.
Thank you for the ideas, will have to check them out. Only problem with the Viridis in this area is sometimes they have red fall leaves. I have livestock and red leaves are toxic to them. Granted I do not let them in the area of my trees..but everyone once in awhile someone forgets to shut a gate... Also saw a Ki Hachjo and a Seiyu that looked promissing. But I have noticed a difference in color depending on where on lives. Was told about these..though I do not think they are Japanese Maples? Glad I have some land because collecting these trees is addicting. circinatum Monroe Japonicum Lovett Shirasawanum microphyllum List is growing so I might have a chance of getting a couple of theses.
another one to consider is sangu kaku which also has some winter interest with its red bark and tends to grow fast when young- it is also an upright but may be more than 10 feet in 10 years depending on where you put it justin
Both very nice Viridis maples. Thank you for posting those pictures..it helps a lot. Humm...makes me wonder if that one seller had the names correct? Well,, will put Viridis on my list again. In fact...I think I know where I can get one in the area, from a different vender of course. <VBG>
Hello ShariN, Sango kaku has yellow fall color as far as I know. The species A. japonicum and A. shirasawanum may certainly be said to be Japanese Maples, in that they are endemic to Japan. When most people say Japanese Maple they mean one of the 3 species japonicum, shirasawanum, palmatum. Of course there are other maples native to the islands as well. A. circinatum is a North American Maple. I love maples regardless of where they come from! Right down to the many thousands of sycamore seedlings I'm currently browsing before extermination! (Found 2 interesting, but as is often the case they look pretty weak.) -E
Humm,, this is interesting. Seems like some trees have slightly different fall color depending on the climate. Thank you for the pictures. My list keeps growing. Which is a good thing.
