I have a tree I bought about 5 years ago, it is about 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide. We were told it is part of the Japanese Maple family. I believe it may a type of Acer palmatum. It thrives in warm weather and in sun/shade mix fast grower with long spreading roots. It is yellow/green in the spring and green in the summer and orange/yellow in the fall, with lace leaves that are not deeply toothed and rounded. New shoots are red with pinkish yellow/green leaves and they sprout from a red fuzzy cone shaped growth. In the winter time all the shoots fall off and it's just the branches and trunk, but it get's this nice fuzzy coat on it all winter long. Also if you break off a shoot or branch it oozes a white creamy lotion like aloe but a little sticky. Very hardy and grows rapidly. I think it could be a "Midori no teiboku" or possibly a "Murasaki Kiyohime". Any help identifying this shrubby tree is greatly appreciated. Please if you know what this is let me know. I have attached some pictures for reference. Thanks - Matt
Welcome matt, Nice tree but sadly not an Acer. It looks like Rhus. Probably Rhus typhina dissecta. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi
Yes that is it, you are both right a rhus - specifically the bailtiger. Thank you so much, it's been driving me crazy. You guys rock.
