My green grapes that are usually bright green have starting to have the grapes skins turning somewhat black. What could be the problem? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you. Bert
here's an interesting article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripeness_in_viticulture At this time, I am not able to ask my viticultural neighbors in Okanagan what it might be. Maybe contact Okanagan College in |Penticton or the Research Station near you (Sidney - is it still there?) - or the one in Summerland BC (Pacific Agri Research - I think that's what it is called) http://www.agr.gc.ca/eng/science-an...-research-centre-summerland/?id=1180620561099 did you personally plant the vine(s)? How old are they? I would not be surprised if the extreme jolt of heat at Coastal BC in June and earlier July promoted some responses in your vines-fruit that you may not usually see (i know Lake Cowichan does get very hot, as does Duncan etc - but a few weeks ago was extreme, would you agree?)
Wonder if it could be "noble rot", Botrytis cinerea. Are they seedless ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling#/media/File:Botrytis_riesling.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/grapeipm/bunchrot.htm
Hi, We had 4 weeks of hot (40) weather and steady around 30+ since then. I planted the grapes some 6 years ago. I will access the links you sent. Thanks very much for the info.
