    Good Afternoon,

We have a green gage plum tree in our garden and being in Australia, the fruit has started to appear. It was full of beautiful fruit last year but we have noticed that about 50% of the small fruit that has formed is falling off. Can anyone offer any advice on what might cause such a disaster.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

That's normal - after a heavy crop one year, the tree has exhausted its energy reserves and needs a year's rest from fruiting.

Thanks very much for the information - is there anything that can be done to stop this happening?

    Thanks again,
    Mark

I have read that plums need to be thinned. I'm just learning about plums, and I'm planning to grow them in a fan shape against a south-facing fence to produce better fruit.
