It is a delicate looking grass, growing in tufts. Here (hot, dry conditions, sandy, nitrogen poor soil) up to 60 cm (2') tall, but I believe it can grow taller on nitrogen rich soils. It is perennial. The roots are not very strong, not rhizomatous. It starts growing and developing flower stalks later than other grasses. I believe it must be native here.
