Does any one have a suggestion for a support for grapevines ? I have a large amount of them growing on a split fence up north on a property that we recently bought. I would like to have the grow taller instead of wider to form a screen. My concern is the weight that the support will have to hold.

The split rail fences we find around here use rails ~10 to 12 feet long, going 8 - 10 ft between corners. If you place (pound in, dig in...) a post at each intersection and run a decent quality 2 x 6 from post to post at your desired height, it should be sufficient to support your vines. I you have a labrusca type grape it will hang down from the high support and make your screen. If you can get more split rails, a 4" rail would do the same job.
