Hello, I am new to this website and need a little help.
I would like to plant red grapes with seeds in my back yard. (we love the flavor)
What kind can/do I buy? Would green be better?
Where is a good place to purchase them?
How long until we actually get fruit?

Thanks so much! Loving this website! :o)

Local tree nursery should have a potted grape you can buy and plant. It will just look like an ugly stick. Grapes grow very fast and are a great looking plant. We harvested grapes the second year after planting our little ungly stick. I'm no master gardener, just deep soil and let it grow.

Make sure your supplier (nursery) clearly understands your preferrences (eating or table grape, red or white wine grape, juicing) and make your selection accordingly. Either red or green should do well for you if selected for your area.

Your "stick" can be anything from a just rooted cutting to 2 or even 3 years old. The older it is, the quicker it will bear fruit for you. Cut off all the bunches in the first year after transplanting to allow the plant to concentrate on setting up it's permanent root structure. Full production will take 4 to 5 years.

    Thanks so much!
I am still searching the nurserys. They always have everything that I am NOT looking for.
    Thanks again.

Try Glenn Lewis at Fragrant Flora 604-885-6142. I've not spoken to him in some time but he has carried a fairly large list of vitis, and is quite ready to share his knowlege.
