There's lots of information about different types of grapes and how to grow them. However, whenever I visit different nurseries in the Vancouver, B.C. area, I come across just the same few varieties. Does anyone know where to get specific varieties locally? Also, I just assume that no U.S. mailorder will work due to restrictions. Specifically, I'm looking for a seedless black/purple table grape. I'm looking for Concord Seedless, Mars or any other variety that would be good for this area. Thanks.
You could try Sovereign Coronation aka Coronation seedless. It is grown commercially in BC and was developed at the Summerland Research Station. You should be able to get it locally. It's a much better grape than concord seedless. http://www.grapegrowers.bc.ca/freshmarket.shtml Try Art Knapps or some of the other nurseries in your area. http://www.gardeningbc.com/page/nurserieswo_a1c17.html Cheers
Thanks for the info. I did see that variety but I've read that it is not a very good tasting grape. Is that not the case?
I guess you have to be the judge as far as flavor goes for Coronation. It's sold in various retail outlets in Western Canada. If you like a labrusca table grape it's quite good and has a loyal consumer following. There are other selections you could try.
