Sunny came back to see the Kiku-zakura. 2 weeks later for the previous post, same location.

Sunny took these Kiku-zakura in 2019 same location. They were so coloful, that is why she wanted to come back and checked, but no luck. Obviously, the weather played an important role.

Thanks, Janice. That's interesting to see the difference. If we didn't know better, we might even think they were different trees. How did they get so dark, anyway? They're not that deep colour when they're new.
She did get a photo this year that I think was worth the trip - the second photo (posting #151), showing in one photo, right next to each other, both the phylloid (leafy) pistils on the original flower and the sepals on the new second-story flower.

The Kanzan at E3 Ave and Semlin were full bloom.
I think today was such a warm day so I didn’t want to miss the chance.

Kiku Zakura trees were 30% in bloom. Probably needs a few more warm days to open up its buds. Few of them were in bloom.

'Kiku-zakura' on Gravely between Garden and Templeton are in full glorious bloom.
I used to think the trees were Sno-Cone shaped, but now I think they are Martini-Glass shaped.

Seeing these trees again was the finale to another great power cherry scouting session with Wendy.

The trees look better than ever. Well-deserved Festival Favourite.

They are crazy floriferous, and that seems to be a characteristic of this cultivar. They are a nice garden-sized tree too. Maybe a little late-blooming to get very popular?

The 'Akebono' trees are finishing with their "snow" in this area, but this tree still presents a handsome shape. Maybe it's because its trunk looks like it belongs, or the tree is low grafted. On the north side of William Street, between Garden and Nanaimo, at April 20, 2023.

'Takasago' on the north side of William, east of Lakewood, is in full lively bloom at April 20, 2023.

    20230420_Takasago_WilliamLakewood_Eng_7806.jpeg 20230420_Takasago_WilliamLakewood_Eng_7812.jpeg 20230420_Takasago_WilliamLakewood_Eng_7807.jpeg

One flower has dropped to conveniently reveal the greenish purple 5+ sepals. And in the graft area of the last photo, we can be happy that its own shoots are starting. What a 'Takasago' tree! One can hardly look at the other many pitiful specimens around.

The bundles of 'Ito-kukuri' are in full bloom on the east side of Lakewood, south of E.6th, at April 29, 2023.

    20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7998.jpeg 20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7994.jpeg

The loose, broad, and ragged-edged petals make the blossoms look Kanzan-like, albeit in a much more elegant pink.
    20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7992.jpeg 20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7993.jpeg 20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7995.jpeg 20230429_Ito-kukuri_LakewoodE6_Eng_7996.jpeg

No "darker, thread-like veins" were visible on the petals at this time, so another trip (and more ice-cream) may be necessary.

The 'Kiku-zakura' trees on both sides of William, between Lakewood and Garden, are in bloom at May 4, 2023.

There are so many Chrysanthemum Cherry trees along the two blocks that you can see the blooming in its various stages, from bud to opening flowers of pink, and changing petals to white.

Eight 'Kiku-zakura' on Gravely between Garden and Templeton are in FULL bloom.
One more beautiful than the next. One of the many things to like about 'Kiku-zakura' is that their blossoms last a loooong time.

Adding to the Kiku-zakura photos. Multi-coloured veins in one and with an ant possibly pollinating it in another.

'Accolade' trees line the north side of Charles west from Garden. Across Templeton St, there is an 'Accolade' on the corner on Charles; the rest of the block are 'Akebono', with one upright late bloomer.

On Nanaimo Street at Parker is a single but very nice 'Accolade'.

Next to it is a 'Fudan-zakura', which seems to be at its peak bloom.

The 'Rancho' trees on Victoria Drive seem to be almost in full bloom. I could see colour as I was driving by, which was not the case with the 'Rancho' trees on Davie, which are in much worse condition.

Bundled with its threads, 'Ito-kukuri' is in full beauteous bloom on the east side of Lakewood, south of E. 6th, at April 4, 2024.

2nd Avenue, ½ block west of Commercial Drive - I couldn't resist taking a photo of this blanket of 'Kanzan' blossoms this evening:
