Several Sargent Hybrid trees in bloom along west side of Nanaimo, around William Street on March 20, 2015.
A Takasago is finishing its bloom on William Street, east of Lakewood at March 31, 2015. It is on the same street as the Kiku-zakura trees, which are just opening with little crimson, carnation-like flowers, hardly cherry-ish.
A lot of 'Takasago' are looking good this year. You'd even think from your photo that these are attractive trees. We're probably just marginal here for this cultivar - a little warmer and a little dryer (like this spring), and on rootstock other than avium, they would look very nice.
Accompanied by Kanzan, the Kiku-zakara trees along Williams, between Lakewood and Garden (4 trees west of Templeton to Lakewood, 9 trees east of Templeton to Garden) are starting their bloom at April 6, 2015. Phase one of the change in colour from deep pink buds opening to paler pink blossoms. Avium is stealthily encroaching on one tree. Last photo is a comparison with the bloom of Kiku-zakara at Maple and W.14.
Thirteen Shirofugen trees in a grove around the playground at Salisbury and Adanac, some trees in bloom, some starting, at April 6, 2015.
As requested by Wendy, I'm posting these photos of a group of 'Kanzan' on both sides of Garden Drive between 7th and 8th.
callen, thanks for that. Someone added them to our map, so I've linked the entry to your posting and approved them on the map. One less pending map entry.
Kiku-zakura in FULL BLOOM on Graveley between Garden and Templeton. 5 trees on north side of Graveley, 3 trees on south side of Graveley. Funnel-shaped and floriferous. Delightful.
Wow! That's amazing to find yet another street of them. You are coming up with great finds - you must be so excited.
Pretty in Pink Drove down to Grandview again this morning. I counted 6 Kiku-zakura trees west of Templeton to Lakewood and 10 Kiku-zakura trees east of Templeton to Garden on William Street. And I recounted the trees on Graveley, between Garden and Templeton. There are 5 on the north side and 3 on the south side of the street. They seem to be multiplying.
Each of the eight Kiku-zakura trees on Graveley between Templeton and Garden. They all look like funnels, but have individual 'characteristics'. First five are on the north side of the street, and the next three are on the south side.
They're so strange, with the main limbs defining the outer edges, and all the growth heading inward. They're all like that. And the flowers are so evenly and densely distributed. They would be great in a formal planting.
Two Fudan-zakura trees on west side of Nanaimo, north of Parker are trying to bloom. One tree is much smaller than the other, but both have the gnarly, stout branches and similar flowers. I saw lots of buds on both trees. Not as prolific as the one across the street on East side of Nanaimo, but still a sight to behold on a beautiful October day in Vancouver.
The majestic Whitcombs at McSpadden Park are showing off in morning light. Now all we need is someone to move the blue Porta-Potties elsewhere.
All is not well with the McSpadden Park Whitcombs. Three of the trees have been removed...as evidenced by the three stumps, all at different times (maybe even different years). At least 3 of the remaining 15 trees look to be in pretty rough shape.
Accolades on Charles, east of Templeton, across from Lord Nelson School - starting to bloom, and also to drop.
