Grandma had one

    I need help identifying a flowering bush/tree that I remember from my childhood (years ago). I've attached a pic of the flower and the bush. Thanks for your help.

    Thanks, the flower and bush do look like pictures posted for Rose of Sharon, but articles that I found state that the Rose of Sharon blooms in late summer. The bushes here in Louisiana are covered with beautiful flowers now. Thoughts?

    Perhaps in your heat it blooms earlier? Do you have a close up of the leaves? I have multiple (think 20!) rose of sharons. I am northeast and yes, it blooms late summer. But it is COLD here til july!

    I suppose you could be right about the temperature differences (makes sense). Here are some pics of the leaves. Thanks for your help.

    Pretty sure it is rose of sharon (hibiscus syriacus) take a peek here to help you are identify it correctly http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ldplants/hisy2.htm and click "next" above the pick a few times to get to the flowers that look like yours

    No question it is Hibiscus syriacus.

    I believe you're all correct. I never would have dreamed that it could be a type of hybiscus. I appreciate ALL of the help.
