Hi there I just recently grafted clippings of Nebbiolo on rootstock 3309, I was wondering with the rootstock do I have to get rid of ther buds on the rootstock or can I just leave it the way it is? How long do I have to wait until I see any results with the grafted vine?

I was reading that grafted vines should not be exposed to sulphur dioxide I have a Barbera grafted vine as well and it's not really exposed to sulphur dioxide but every now and then i open my container to sterilize my bottles do I have anything to worry about pls advise.

    Thanks

All the rootstock buds have to be suppressed or they may take over and dominate the growth, and sooner is generally better than later.

Are you grafting to cuttings ('bench grafts') or to rooted plants? On rooted stock you have a bit more leeway and amateur growers (no slight intended!) will frequently leave growth above the graft (chip or T-budding) until they get a bit of confidence with the process. With a whip or cleft graft obviously that isn't possible. In any event buds below the graft are cut of "rubbed" out.

    Sorry, I can't comment on the SO2.

Also can I graft Nebbiolo cuttings with a grape vine that has been cut off in my backyard regardless if it's black or white grape, and if so can you send me any photos on how or where can I graft on the grape vine.

    Thanks
