I am growing Green Japanese Maples from seed as a wholesale supplier for grafting. On my 2-year-old trees, what is the desirable height(s) for grafting site - and do the seedlings need to be straight up? I don't want to toss any which are useable.

    Hi Mimi,

I'm new to grafting maples myself, but I know that usually the graft is made very low on the rootstock. The exception is weeping cultivars, which are usually grafted much higher (1-3 ft, according to Vertrees) so they will have room to cascade.
It's good to know there is someone new getting into the business of selling Japanese maple rootstocks. Good luck.

    Fred
