Hey All, I have a couple different types of ficus elastica and wanted to know if it would be possible to graft a piece of my tineke onto to burgundy. I think it would be cool to have two different types of leaves growing from the same tree. The burgundy I have is a large plant, one main trunk and 4 branches about 2 feet each coming out of it. Total height of the plant is about 5 feet. Would it be possible? If pictures would help, let me know adn I'll get some up later today. Thanks! -Kris
It may be possible, but I can't say I've ever heard of it being done with F. elastica. I did find one page about a different species of Ficus being grafted, and Google kicked up several more. They all seemed to be about F. benjamina or F. microcarpa, though. It looks like it's very important to keep the graft from moving around while it's joining the host tree, which might be difficult to do with a rubber tree, the leaves and stems being as large and heavy as they are.
Thanks for the advice and my apologies for taking so long to respond! Do you think it's too late in the year to try my hand at this? I have seemingly an abundance of f. elastica on hand.
I would think this probably isn't the best time of year to try, but I'm really just guessing. I don't even know whether it's possible, remember.
