Hello all. I want to know how long/or if I have to keep my pothos in water before I move them to dirt? I was given some vines by a co worker because I wanted start indoor plants, and was told that they were the easiest. I have had them for a week now and I don't know what to do, a few of the leaves have brown spots, I don't want them to die, I keep them in my window on a book case, where they get some sun for most of the day. So please some help on how to heal me golden pothos vines?
Let the roots get some roots, maybe about an inch long before potting them up. You should use the smallest pot you can to avoid rot from too much wet soil. Make sure the pot drains out the bottom and the soil has something like 'Perlite' (found at most box stores) like Lowe's or Home Depot for added drainage. The spots could be from change of light (that usually happens to like three leaves on mine that is a whole plant in soil in the fall and in the spring) Or, the cuttings are getting too much direct light. Move the cuttings to bright indirect light and pinch off the bad leaves.
Newbie, You can easily root potho cuttings in soil too. Just remember, water roots are different then soil roots. Water roots are a lot more fragile and can easily break, just be careful transplanting them into soil and it's best to use a pot with just enough room for the stems and enough soil to cover them. Pothos do well in bright indirect light and they like to pretty much dry between waterings.
