Hi I am a Newbie, so here is my problem. I have two potted Golden Bamboo which I bought I want to separate each pot into two. They are over 6 feet high.
One pot has shoots growing straight up Which is great but the other has the shoots growing across and some are pushing back into the pot.
Should I still separate and what should I do about the roots going across the plant.

    Thank you for any help.

Wait until fall before trying to divide, sounds like new stem growth is too advanced to do it now. In the meantime, you could give them bigger pots if concerned about crowding - except that if you are going to grow them in tubs indefinitely they may always be trying to escape them. Any unwanted rootstocks coming over the rims will just have to be pruned off.

Thank you for replying, I only bought them a few weeks ago and they were already crowded. I will try repotting into another pot. Should the pot be really bigger or just a bit bigger.

    Regards.
