I have this plant that started to pop up like crazy and actually its becoming invasive and ugly because it is growing in all of the wrong places. but I am trying to identify these things..

I believe they are some kind of Glad.. but am not too sure.

The closes thing that i came up with is Gladiolus abbreviatus.

Attached are the pictures of it. The plant sitting on my lap is something that I think is a glad seedling.. which are growing like crazy!

So any help on trying to get rid of them or prevent them from growing there. Or even transplanting it to another location in my yard. But again, I am not a fan of these things right now. Im out there every other day pulling out new growth!

cj and all--the way the flower spike develops looks unlike the glad/watsonia family...tho the foliage sure makes me think of those first.

My hunch is this is some type of crocosmia...again the way the buds above the flowers are arranged...tho I've never seen one quite so, er, humble looking in flower. Interesting that you're having to fight with these things cj...California is too much like back home in S. Africa for these guys (?)

    Thanks growest...

the information you provided seems like the right direction.

I believe it might be a Crocosmia paniculata of osme sort according to the pictures i've seen on the web (http://www.theafricangarden.com/page38.html) here are some of the pictures from the site that made me think wow, that looks like what I have.
