We went to Rockefeller Park & Greenhouse in Cleveland OH last month and I was amazed by the giant Acer palmatum in their Japanese garden. I hope to do more research on this tree and take some measurements in the future. Here are some pictures of this multi trunk Acer palmatum. Unfortunately it is hard to get a good picture due to the confines on this garden and everything is large and overgrown as its a very old garden (1905) and maintenance has not been a priority over the past decades. To help put things into perspective, just one of these trunks would be massive for a Cleveland grown Acer palmatum. Anyway here are some photos from the other day and I hope to get more along with measurements next time we visit. Also notice that this tree had massive branch removal that will most likely bring an end to this once magnificent tree. Sad how someone with poor judgement and experience can put an end to what could be one of the oldest Acer palmatum in Cleveland.
