I'm trying to germinate some Garry Oak acorns I picked up in Maple Bay. I am soaking them for a couple of days and will cold stratify them in the fridge, mixed with moist vermiculite. Will this work? any tips? thanks.

I have germinated a few. I collected the acorns last fall, soaked them overnight and planted them in a trough outside for the winter. Several have germinated[about 10 cm tall] and I have posted a question above as to the best way to grow them on. They are in 6in pots at present.

I'd plant directly into one gallon pots for growing on after germination. The only reason I would have for putting them in water first would be to weed out the floaters (blanks).

Ron - Is using the float test an accurate and reliable way of finding the "duds"
