So I'm an idiot with a black thumb....

I bought a beautiful Gerbera Daisy to live in a pot on my patio at my apartment. Today when I went to water the plant one of the flowers looked dead so I decide to 'pick' the flower, well apparently I picked to hard because the whole plant popped out of the pot! Some of the roots were still attached, while others were in the pot. In my genius-ness I choose to quickly re-pot and water the plant (I did water it yesterday but it's been hot and dry here lately)

So really what I wanna know - will my poor plant survive? If so what do I need to do to help it along it's flowering way? Or do I need to go buy a new daisy?

    Thank you so much!

You are not alone. These things rot out at the crown all the time. When I saw a woman grabbing a flat of them at CostCo recently I was tempted to warn her, but said nothing. Maybe she only wanted them for an event anyway.

So...does that mean my plant is dead and I need to go buy a new one?

I have done some research that shows Gerbera's are very suseptible to bacteria, especially in the form of Grey Mildew. This causes the blooms to wilt. Look beneath the leaves, at the soil level, to see if the leaves are rotting. If so, there is insufficient air space for the soil to dry out between waterings. Cut the bottom leaves off to help correct this problem. Your flowers will not recuperate, you'll have to cut them off, and wait for more to bloom.
