Gerber daisy flower color deformity

    I was sent this picture by my granddaughter. She want to know what it is. If it is natural (!) I assume it is caused by an error in the cell in the flower primordium that gave rise to the petals in that segment. Is that right? Is this common in gerber daisies?

    First time I've ever seen something like that. Neat. I'd say that yes, there's some cellular error in the blossom - like site-specific albinism - but I wouldn't worry about it harming the plant. Your granddaughter may just have to resign herself to having very unique Gerberas.
