Is it possible to determine the gender of a kiwi fruit plant (Actinidia deliciosa) just by leaf color? I know, that male plants of A. kolomikta tend to have pink tinted leaf color, when exposed to direct sunlight. Do males of A. deliciosa have similar property? My Golden Kiwis, the plant in the middle has reddish leaves, compared to the dominating yellow on plants beside it.:
I suspect that the leaf color will depend on the species and variety; so, no general rule would apply. I have a female A. deliciosa (Hayward) and an unknown male variety. At certain stages of growth the leaves are slightly different shades of green; but, at the mature stage, they look very similar. I also have a female yellow kiwi (Yellow Queen), which has leaves similar to Hayward's. I don't know about Golden Kiwis, but @pmurphy has male and female plants and may be able to comment about them.
Thanks, vitog! As I thought, things aren't so simple, as in case of A. kolomikta. If there is no distinct difference between leaves of male and female plants, then I have to wait until blooming, to śort thing out.
