The following was received via email:

We are moving to west of Prince George to lakefront property, and we are wondering what zone that might be, as we would like to do some gardening up there.

Thank you for any advice you might have.

Hi For gardening up here it's rather a diverse climate depending on where you are going to live. Generally you are safe for zone2 in exposed areas. (It depends on snow cover and the prevailing North wind) In more sheltered areas I push to zone 4b. There are so many locale climates here its atough call without seeing the locale.

For instance I"ve put seed and sod down already this year where if you go out about 50kms Northwest of town (Ness lake area)they
still have 4to 8 inches of snow cover.

As temperatures up here are warming.(Mildest winter here in 42 years) It will make things a liitle more fun.

Don't Fret there are still about 500 to 800 different different species that grow in these climates.

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Hope
