Hi, I came accross this forum while looking for an answer to our ficus odor chalenge.

We have a 12 year old ficus standing about 4 feet high. And recently it's started to smell like sulfur/rotting eggs. And about 30% of the leaves are dying. We have no idea as to what the odor is. There are no signs of insect habitation/infestation.

    Any thouhts would be helpful.

An accumulation of organic matter that stays moist and is lacking in oxygen will give you the rotten egg or sulphur smell. You need fresh potting soil. Unpot the plant and remove as much of the old soil as possible, rinsing it off if necessary. Repot with fresh potting soil that does not contain synthetic fertilizers.
