Yesterday I discovered a mushroom looking ball breaking the surface of my garden. This morning when I checked on it, it had a 2" stalk, and a black liquid on the top. The secretion seemed to be dripping onto the ground below. I have no idea what this could be.

Something in the genus Coprinus, although I'm not sure of the species. A very cool fungus, they actually spread their spores by liquefying their caps. The caps literally drip to the ground carrying with them tens of thousands of mushroom spores in each droplet.

Thanks for your quick reply. I thot a UFO dropped it in my garden. Should I be worried about this? (The fungus, not the UFO.)
